Bathing
You will need to sponge bathe until your stitches or staples are removed. Ask your doctor if it is safe for you to get into the shower. Do use your long-handled sponge to wash your legs and feet.
Getting into the bathtub
- DO NOT sit on the floor of the bathtub. Use a tub seat or bench.
- Back up to the tub so that your legs are touching the side and the tub seat is directly behind you.
- Slide your operated leg forward and reach back with one hand to the back of the seat.
- Reach the other hand to the front edge of the seat and lower yourself slowly to the seat, keeping your operated leg forward. ALWAYS keep both hands on the tub seat while you are lowering yourself.
- Leaning backwards in the seat, slowly and carefully, lift one leg into the tub at a time, keeping your operated hip in the correct position.
