The UVa Joint Replacement Center

Many baby boomers and their parents want to maintain their active lifestyles. Unfortunately, this often leads to wear and tear on knees and hips. At the University of Virginia's Joint Replacement Center, we are dedicated to developing and utilizing the latest techniques in hip and knee arthritis surgery. Our team of surgeons specializes in a variety of hip and knee procedures designed to suit the individual needs of patients. Procedures include joint preservation surgery, such as osteotomies of the hip and knee, and minimally invasive and minimal-incision procedures, along with the newest computer-aided joint procedures. Minimally invasive surgery is great for active people who want to get moving again as soon as possible.

The joint replacement team utilizes innovative implant technology, such as hip resurfacing, ceramics, metal-on-metal, and oxinium to ensure that patients get flexible, strong and long-lasting implants. Highly skilled residents and fellows from around the world contribute to adult reconstruction services at UVa Health System.

Our team helps more than 7,500 patients annually and performs more than 1,000 thousand procedures a year with excellent outcomes. According to Health Grades, a health care quality assessment company, UVa Health System is considered a leading expert in joint replacement. Our team consistently scores at the top of the scale on patient outcomes and satisfaction.

We follow our patients all of the way through their journey back to healthy mobility. The joint replacement team utilizes several different pain management regimens after surgery. We employ proven care pathways with multidisciplinary expertise input from internal medicine, anesthesia, and physical medicine and rehabilitation. The division has an excellent team that works closely with our patients to develop a comprehensive plan from admission through discharge. Our goal is to streamline the hospital stay and the road to fullest recovery.
