Research Cores

The following research cores operate under the Office of Research Core Administration. The cores are reviewed and supported by the Research Advisory Committee of the School of Medicine.
 Advanced Microscopy Facility
Provides electron and light microscopy imaging technologies for basic scientists, physicians, and students.
 Bioinformatics Core
The Bioinformatics Core in ITC-ACHS provides infrastructure, data management, analysis, and interpretive support for Expression (Affymetrix data) and Genome (Illumina gene sequencing) Bioinformatics. The core also provides expertise in Bioinformatics software, sequence analysis pipelines, and data management.
 Biomolecular Magnetic Resonance Facility
Facilitates and promotes research which utilizes nuclear magnetic and/or electron paramagnetic resonance (NMR and/or EPR) spectroscopies to examine the structure and dynamics of biologically important molecules.
Biomolecular Research Facility see DNA Sciences, Mass Spectrometry, Shared Instrumentation
 Biorepository and Tissue Research Facility
Procures and collects human tissue and other biospecimens for research purposes.
DNA Sciences; services for sequencing genomes, gene expression analysis.
 Flow Cytometry Core Facility
Provides a range of services and instruments for flow cytometry and cell sorting.
 Gene Targeting and Transgenic Facility
Produces and preserves genetically engineered mouse strains for animal model research.
 Lymphocyte Culture Center
Constructs lymphocyte-myeloma hybridomas for production of monoclonal antibodies using current technology and methods.
Mass Spectrometry; identification and quantitative analysis of proteins and peptides.
 Molecular Imaging Core
Images animals and cells with MRI, X and gamma rays, bioluminescence, fluorescence, and PET.
 Molmart
Provides reagents to University of Virginia researchers (internal service only).
 Research Histology Core
Provides histology services.
Shared Instrumentation; access to user operated plate ready & CD and HPLC services.
 Tissue Culture Facility
Provides cell culture services, facilities and supplies to University of Virginia researchers. Services are not available outside the University of Virginia.
