HUMPHRIES SYMPOSIUM

The Annual Humphries Symposium is held in September, usually the Saturday following Labor Day. The symposium, which is named in honor of Marion K. Humphries, Jr., M.D., who was the first Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Virginia, is our annual Ophthalmology educational meeting. The symposium is attended each year by 50-60 ophthalmologists from Virginia. The format consists of major lectures given by invited guest speakers, lectures by the University of Virginia faculty and brief presentations by residents and alumni. CME Credit varies per year, but is generally between 5 and 9 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.TM

GRAND ROUNDS

Grand Rounds take place most Wednesdays between 8:00 and 9:00 a.m. in the Ophthalmology Library, Room 2815. The responsibility for the Grand Rounds is shared by the residents and faculty on a rotating basis. Faculty members generally present an hour. The residents present a half hour, so that two residents share each session. Physicians who attend earn 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit. TM

VISITING LECTURER SERIES

The Visiting Professor Lectures are held three to four times a year, generally with two held in the spring of the year and two in the fall. The goal of the lecture series is to bring speakers from outside institutions that will provide cutting edge information on new surgical and medical techniques of treatment, as well as research programs in ophthalmology. CME credit varies per speaker between 2 and 3 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. TM
