Start Up The PC

Logging into the PC

  1. Type faculty into the box marked Username
  2. Type faculty into the box marked Password
  3. Click OK to login

Connecting to the HSCS VPN

In order to access your "F:" and "O:" drives or the online PACS system, you must connect to the HSCS VPN.  If you do not have a VPN account and authentication token, contact the HSCS Help Desk (924-5334) for information on obtaining them.  If you have an account and token, follow these steps to connect to the VPN:

  1. Double-click the "Uva HSCS VPN" icon on the desktop
  2. Verify "Uva HSCS VPN" is selected in the Connection Entry box
  3. Verify "vpnvip.hscs.virginia.edu" is selected in the Hostname or IP address of remote server box
  4. Click "Connect"
  5. Use your token to generate a password and enter it into the Password field. Note: you must include the hyphen as part of your password or your login will not work (ex., xxx-xxxx)
  6. Click "OK" to connect to the VPN
  7. To disconnect from the VPN, right-click the VPN padlock icon in the System Tray (lower right-hand corner of the screen) and choose "Disconnect" fromt he context menu

Connecting to Your HSCS "F:" Drive

If you want to access your HSCS "F:" drive do the following:

  1. Right-click the My Computer icon on the desktop.
  2. Select Map Network Drive from the pop-up menu.
  3. Select the drive letter you want to assign to this drive (F: is the default).
  4. In the box marked "Folder," use the following formula to type in the path to your drive:
    \\servername\computingid$
    Note: The servername variable will be one of the following, depending on which server your drive resides on: hscs-ss7, hscs-ss8, hscs-ss9. If you are not sure which server your drive is on, try each one until you find the correct one. The computingid variable is your UVA computing ID (e.g., jph7c). A correct path will look similar to this:
    \\hscs-ss9\jph7c$
  5. Deselect the checkbox labeled "Reconnect at logon."
  6. Click Finish, and the Network Password dialog box will appear.
  7. In the "Connect As:" box, type hscdom\computingid
  8. Type your password in the Password box and click OK to finish.

Connecting to Your HSCS "O:" Drive

If you want to access your HSCS "O:" drive do the following:

  1. Right-click the My Computer icon on the desktop.
  2. Select Map Network Drive from the pop-up menu.
  3. Select the drive letter you want to assign to this drive (F: is the default).
  4. In the box marked "Folder," type in the following path:
    \\hscs-share1\central
  5. Deselect the checkbox labeled "Reconnect at logon."
  6. Click Finish, and the Network Password dialog box will appear.
  7. In the "Connect As:" box, type hscdom\computingid
  8. Type your password in the Password box and click OK to finish.Return to How To list.
