Q. Can I walk in and obtain service from UVA-WorkMed?
A. On the job injuries, yes. All other services require an appointment.
Q. What is UVA-WorkMed and how is it different from UVA Employee Health?
A. UVA-WorkMed is a comprehensive occupational health program dedicated to serving the occupational health needs of University of Virginia academic division employees (Agency 207), HSF employees, and privately contracted companies
UVA Employee Health is the Medical Center's comprehensive employee health program dedicated to serving the employee health needs of Medical Center employees (Agency 209), medical residents, contractual Nutrition Services, and contractual Environmental Services and all other Medical Center contracted workers.
Q. Where are they both located?
A. UVA-WorkMed is located at the Fontaine Research Center. Upon entering Fontaine Research Park, stay in the left hand lane and continue left through the yield sign. Take a right at the Stop sign. Enter Building 515, take a right, take the elevators to the third floor, take a left off the elevators. UVA-WorkMed is on the left, Suite 3200.
UVA Employee Health is located at 1222 Jefferson Park Avenue.
Q. I'm a University of Virginia academic division (Agency 207) employee. I've made an appointment to obtain services through UVA-WorkMed. Should I have any paper work with me when I present to UVA-WorkMed?
A. University of Virginia academic division employees (Agency 207) are required to have an Authorization for Treatment form complete with an authorizing signature and containing a departmental PTAO number prior to obtaining services. This form can be obtained from our website. Those presenting without this information will not be provided service.
Q. I work closer to the University Hospital, how do I get to UVA-WorkMed?
A. As one option, you can drive to UVA-WorkMed. The Fontaine Research Park is easily accessible and has ample free parking. As another option, you can take the free shuttle that runs between the University Hospital, the West Hospital Complex, and the Fontaine Research Park. The times and pick up points of the shuttle service can be obtained by calling 982-1600 or by visiting UVA Transportation Services website at: http://www.healthsystem.virginia.edu/internet/transportation/
Q. Can I automatically receive any/ all health and medical services offered through UVA Work-Med?
No. Services available depend upon the agreement UVA-WorkMed has with the University of Virginia, specific departments, or the company you work for. Questions as to which services are available to you can be answered by contacting UVA-WorkMed, 243-0075.
Q. Where do I go when UVA-WorkMed and/or UVA Employee Health are closed?
A. If you are injured on the job, or if you have work-related health concern, you may go to the UVa Emergency Department with a referral note from your supervisor.
Q. What if I am injured on the job while working for the University of Virginia? What do I do?
A. If you sustain an injury while working for UVA, first report your injury to your supervisor. To receive medical treatment of the injury, you have the option of going to UVA Employee Health at 1222 JPA or to UVA-WorkMed in Building 515 in Fontaine Research Park, whichever is more convenient for you. If the injury is severe enough to warrant emergency medical treatment, you should go to the Emergency Department at the University of Virginia Health System. If an injury is sustained outside of normal business hours (8 a.m. -4:30 p.m.), treatment should be sought through the Emergency Department at the University of Virginia Health System.
Q. What if I am required by the Health System to have an annual tuberculosis (TB) screening for TB compliance? Where do I go?
A. All employees who are required by the Health System to have an annual TB screening (PPD) have the option of obtaining this at either UVA-WorkMed or UVA Employee Health.
