Who We Are 

JoAnn V. Pinkerton, MD

Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology

Pinkerton  She received her medical degree at the Medical College of Virginia and completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at University of Virginia. She is the Director for the Midlife Division and the Midlife Health Center, a nationally recognized multidisciplinary center for women’s midlife health. She serves as a member of the Board of Trustees for the North American Menopause Society and the Board of Directors for the National Women’s Health Resource Center. She is active in education and clinical research trials. Her major clinical interests are low dose hormone therapy, alternatives to hormone therapy, osteoporosis and female sexuality.

Elizabeth Mandell, MD

Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology. 

MandellShe received her medical degree from Cornell University and completed her residency at Lenox Hill Hospital.  She is a member of the consumer education subcommittee of the North American Menopause Society.  She is active in the education of medical students and residents; and is involved in continuing education courses for physicians and nurse practitioners.  She is a co-investigator for clinical trials through the Midlife Health Center.  Her clinical interests include management of menopausal symptoms, prevention and treatment of osteoporosis, and midlife health lifestyle issues.

Rebecca S. Kightlinger, DO

Associate Professor, Midlife Health Center

 She is a board certified Obstetrician/Gynecologist specializing in menopause and midlife women’s health.  She is Chair of the North American Menopause Society’s Consumer Education Committee, and is an Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Virginia. Her interests are treatment of menopausal symptoms and vulvar disease, and promotion of a healthy lifestyle for prevention of disease and maximizing health and overall well-being.

She is a graduate of the Frontier School of Midwifery and Family Nursing, affiliated with Case Western Reserve University and is a member of the American College of Nurse Midwives. She has worked in women's health for over 20 years, with the last 10 years spent in private practice. She has cared for women in their childbearing years as well as the perimenopause, and menopause. Her interests focus on nutrition and promoting a healthy lifestyle for the whole woman as reflected in the motto of the American College of Nurse Midwives: With women, for a lifetime.
