The gynecologic oncology program is a service of the University of Virginia Health System and a component of the University's National Cancer Institute designated Cancer Center. The physicians, nurses, researchers, and ancillary staff of this program provide comprehensive care to women with gynecologic malignancies.

This robust program serves thousands of women annually, performs more than 550 major operations each year, and participates in both laboratory and clinical research aimed at improving the outcomes of women with gynecologic cancer.

A multidisciplinary team composed of gynecologic cancer surgeons, gynecologic pathologists and radiation oncologists, oncology nurses, a team of social and support services, work together to provide a comprehensive evaluation and treatment plan for patients with gynecologic malignancies, including ovarian, endometrial, cervical, vaginal, or vulvar cancers. Each week this multidisciplinary team meets to devise an appropriate and individualized treatment plan for each patient.

Communication and teamwork constitute the mainstay of our program. Our physicians work closely with referring physicians and physicians in the patient's home community to provide an informed and seamless continuum of care that meets each patient's individual needs. Our combined resources enable gynecologic cancer patients to receive state of the art care.
