MEDIA ADVISORY

There are times when, no matter what the score, the game is more than just the game. February 1, the UVA Women's Basketball Game against N.C. State, led by Hall of Fame Coach Kay Yow, will be one of those times.

In honor of Coach Yow, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association has started a Think Pink initiative focused on breast cancer awareness. At the game itself, UVA Coach Debbie Ryan also will recognize Coach Yow and the Kay Yow WBCA Cancer Fund.

Sponsoring the game, UVA Health System will honor its cancer center staff  and unveil plans for the new Emily Couric Clinical Cancer Center, the groundbreaking for which is scheduled this coming April. The Emily Couric Clinical Cancer Center will be the focus of cancer treatment at UVA, which boasts one of only two National Cancer Institute designated cancer centers in the state. This new building has been designed to provide innovative care in an integrated healing environment. UVA's Cancer Center serves patients from across the Commonwealth and beyond.

For tickets to the game, call the UVa Athletics Ticket Office at 1-800-542-UVA1 or visit virginiasports.com.  Tickets are available at $7 for adults and $5 for kids.  Tip off is at 7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 1.
