UVA CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL PATIENTS TO BENEFIT FROM DIAPER DUTY ADVOCACY PROJECT
Charlottesville, Va. - The phrase conjures up images of hapless dads keeping watch over their small babies while mom gets a much deserved break. Diaper Duty, not a chore, but this time an advocacy project created by University of Virginia Children's Hospital interns, is taking to the road!
On Saturday, Sept. 23, employees of the Wal-Mart Distribution Center in Mount Crawford will hold the first "Rally in the Valley" diaper and toy drive to benefit the University of Virginia Children's Hospital, Central Virginia's local Children's Miracle Network Hospital. A group of Motorcycle enthusiasts will drop of their toy and diaper donations before escorting a Wal-Mart trailer filled with donations to the UVa Children's Hospital Kluge Children's Rehabilitation Center. The expected arrival time is 2 p.m.
Dr. Diane Pappas, director of the Family Advocacy Program will be on hand to accept these donations. In the future, the diapers will be distributed, free of charge, to qualified families with infants less than 12 months old who receive medical care at the UVa Primary Care Center general pediatrics clinic. The toys will be distributed to hospitalized children. The rain date for the event will be Saturday, Sept. 30.
