The VNA focuses on the quality of patient care and the quality of nursing as a profession. The leadership of the organization chose to recognize those nurses who best embody the profession today, feeling that this would be the best way to recognize the achievements nurses have made over the years, according to VNA President Becky Rice. In our celebration, we wanted to reflect the spirit of VNA's beginnings . . . as well as give as many members and non-members the opportunity to participate, particularly since the nurses we acknowledge were nominated by their peers, she said.
The VNA's outstanding 99 nurses work throughout the state in a variety of categories, ranging from acute care nursing to nursing research and community settings. The festivities for the VNA's Century to Celebrate will continue throughout this year, 2000, and will culminate with a focus on Nursing in the Future at the VNA Convention in October 2001.
