UVa Doctors Named Top in Their Specialties

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., Dec. 15 -- More than 100 University of Virginia physicians were named to the list of Best Doctors in America^® by Best Doctors, Inc. This year 125 names made the list – 23 more than appeared on the 2004 list. Likewise, 51 UVa doctors made the list of America's Top Doctors, fifth edition, published in a volume by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. In addition, 15 UVa doctors made the list for a new volume published this year: America's Top Doctors for Cancer (first edition, Castle Connolly Medical).

Best Doctors database contains the names and professional affiliations of doctors chosen through a comprehensive peer-review survey that asks: “If you or a loved one needed a doctor in your specialty, to whom would you refer them?” The database represents the top 3 percent to 5 percent of physicians in more than 400 medical subspecialties. A Best Doctors physician goes through regular evaluations by the company in order to maintain his or her status as one of the Best Doctors in America^®.

The Top Doctors were selected through a peer nomination process. More than a quarter million doctors were surveyed about who should be included in the book. Surveyed physicians nominate top doctors in their own and other specialties, especially those to whom they would refer their own patients.
