U.VA. DOCTORS MAKE LIST OF AMERICA'S TOP DOCTORS

Forty-five doctors from the University of Virginia Health System are listed in the 2003 edition of America's Top Doctors. The book, published by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd., recognizes physicians who are considered among the best in their specialties in both patient care and research.

The doctors were nominated by their peers and the result was a carefully researched and highly selective list of the top specialists in the nation. According to the Castle Connolly research team, more than 250,000 doctors were surveyed by mail and were asked to nominate the top people in their specialties and in related specialties, especially those to whom they would refer their own patients.

An extensive biographical form was sent to each of those nominated physicians and telephone interviews were conducted, primarily with leaders in medical specialties and leading physicians at major medical centers. Additional research was conducted in the areas of disciplinary and license histories.

The book is designed to help people find the right specialists locally, regionally or nationally.
