UVA'S CARDIOVILLAGE WINS WEB EXCELLENCE AWARD

CardioVillage, the cardiovascular medical education website launched and sponsored by the University of Virginia School of Medicine, has won its fourth national award. CardioVillage was given the eHealthcare Award for 2003 by eHealthcare Strategy and Trends in the category of Best Healthcare Content for Physicians and Clinicians.

The site, found online at www.cardiovillage.com, was selected for the honor by an independent panel of experts over 1,200 other entries. Websites were rated on internet excellence and how they compared with others in their group classification. Other winners in this category included WebMD and Merck.

Created in 1999 by the cardiology faculty at the U.Va. Health System, CardioVillage has been a leader in web-based continuing medical education (CME) for cardiologists and other health care professionals. The site offers 135 hours of AMA credit to more than 7,300 users in the U.S. and around the world. U.Va. cardiologists Dr. Lawrence Gimple and Dr. Ralph Buckley are the course directors and the authors of many learning exercises.

CardioVillage won the eHealthcare Leadership Award in 2001 for Best Overall Internet Site. In 2002, CardioVillage won the eHealth Developers Summit Honorable Mention and the Medicine on the Net Web Excellence Award for Outstanding Content.
