THREE U.VA. CANCER DOCTORS NAMED BEST IN SOUTHEAST BY LADIES HOME JOURNAL

Three University of Virginia Health System oncologists were listed as the top specialists in a 10-state Southeast region of the United States in a list of The Best Doctors for Women - Coast to Coast in the April 2002 issue of Ladies Home Journal magazine.

The U.Va. Cancer Center specialists are:

• Dr. Peyton T. Taylor, Jr., medical director of the U.Va. Cancer Center and Richard N. and Louise R. Crockett Professor of obstetrics and gynecology -- was one of only nine specialists named, and the only one listed for the state of Virginia, in the category of gynecologic oncology.
  
  
• Dr. Maria D. Kelly, chairman, Department of Radiation Oncology and associate professor of clinical radiation oncology, and Dr. Maureen Ross, director of the adult bone marrow transplant program and professor of internal medicine and pathology, were listed among 27 specialists named in the category of breast specialists, and two out of only three named in Virginia.

The list was prepared by the publisher of the consumer guide America's Top Doctors, Castle Connolly, which employs a team of physicians and researchers to compile the list. The team conducts mail and telephone surveys, collects electronic ballots and uses other research methods to ask physicians in each geographical region to identify the most highly skilled and exceptional doctors, according to the article.
