UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA NAMED ONE OF NATION'S 100 MOST WIRED HOSPITALS AND HEALTH SYSTEMSThe University of Virginia Health System has been named one of the nation's 100 Most Wired hospitals and health care systems in the July 2001 issue of Hospitals & Health Networks, the journal of the American Hospital Association. This is the third straight year that U.Va. has been named to the list. This recognition is the direct result of positive teamwork among the U.Va.care providers who participate in design, the technology personnel that deliver the capability and the administrative team that supports the technology efforts strategically and operationally, said William E. Carter, Jr., U.Va. Health System chief operating officer. Developed with Deloitte Consulting and McKessonHBOC, Hospitals & Health Networks third annual Most Wired survey examined how health care organizations use Internet technologies to connect with patients, physicians and nurses, suppliers, health plans and employees. A total of 283 surveys were completed by organizations representing 1,177 hospitals. According to Alden Solovy, executive editor of the magazine, the poll also revealed that the 100 Most Wired hospitals have greater expense control and more productivity. Other key findings in the survey suggest that the 100 Most Wired hospitals have more efficient utilization management and higher credit ratings than the rest of the nation's hospitals. July 31, 2001 |
