BOOT CAMP FOR NEW DADS FEATURED AT U.VA. BABYFEST EVENT

Does the average new Dad know how often to change a diaper, what to do when a baby won't stop crying or how often a baby should be fed? Expectant moms usually know where to turn to find the answers to these questions, but many dads-to-be do not.

That's why the University of Virginia Health system Women's Place is poised to meet this need by offering Boot Camp for New Dads, a community education program taught by experienced dads for expectant fathers. New dads can register for the class and receive information at the annual U.Va. Health System's Babyfest on Saturday, June 16 at Lee Park, off the downtown mall in Charlottesville.

Just in time for Father's Day, representatives will explain to men how Boot Camp for New Dads can help them rise to the tremendous responsibilities of being a parent, and feel confident bringing a new baby home. The first class will be held on Saturday, September 15.

Of course moms-to-be won't be left out. Babyfest will also include:

  • Ask the Doctor, with U.Va. physicians on hand to answer medical questions concerning babies and pregnancy.

  • Information booths with the latest on healthy pregnancy, infant brain development and pregnancy over age 35.

  • Pizza donated by Dominos, door prizes, premiums, music and crafts.

The Little Gym also will sponsor The Diaper Derby. Coupons for free Domino's Pizza will be given to visitors who bring gently used books to benefit Head Start families. All information will also be available in Spanish.
