U.VA. CMC TO EXHIBIT CURRENT PEDIATRICS RESEARCH

The University of Virginia Children's Medical Center (CMC) will present exhibits of current research by U.Va. faculty on Thursday, May 25, from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. in Jordan Hall, on the second floor, in conference rooms A, B and C. The technical presentations will cover topics that include:

  • A proposed method using heart rate variability to predict infection among newborn infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

  • Gene therapy that could protect a child's heart during surgery

  • Relation of shape of the lower jawbone to children's tendency to experience irregular breathing (apnea) during sleep

  • Growth patterns in children with cerebral palsy

  • Potential treatments for children with severe lung injury or lung transplants

Among the 29 studies to be summarized, additional topics include basic science research concerning kidney, blood vessel, gastrointestinal and heart growth and repair. Investigators for each study will attend the session.

In addition, an evening reception to present three awards for outstanding research will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at The Colonnade Hotel on the U.Va. Lawn and McCormick Road.
