FOUNDER OF MINORITY ORGAN TISSUE TRANSPLANT EDUCATION PROGRAM TO SPEAK AT U.VA. MEDICAL CENTERDr. Clive O. Callender, professor and chairman of the department of surgery and director of the Transplant Center at Howard University Hospital, will discuss the “Evolution of the Minority Organ Tissue Transplant Education Program” on Friday, November 10, at 8 a.m. in Jordan Conference rooms G1 & G2.Callender will provide an overview of organ transplantation in minority populations and describe how he founded the national Minority Organ Tissue Transplant Education Program (MOTTEP). MOTTEP aims to decrease the number and rate of American minorities needing organ and tissue transplants through an increase in national awareness about the need for minority organ and tissue donation. The program was founded in 1993. Callender earned his M.D. in 1963 from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tenn.
