Cancers appear in many gastrointestinal organs, most commonly the colon, pancreas, stomach, liver and esophagus. The American Cancer Society estimates that about 235,000 new cases of gastrointestinal cancers are diagnosed and approximately 120,000 people die from these diseases each year. The University of Virginia Digestive Health Center is a nationally recognized center of excellence dedicated to providing outstanding care for patients with gastrointestinal disease. The exhibit will continue at the Downtown Inn through January 2, 2001. For information about ticket sales for the event, please contact Ellen Anderson at (804) 243-2986 or mea8n@virginia.edu.
