Bio: Mark Edwin Shaffrey was born in Upper Darby Pennsylvania. He graduated magna cum laude from Virginia Tech in 1983 with B.S. degrees in Biochemistry and Biology. In 1987, Dr. Shaffrey received his medical degree from the University of Virginia, following election to Alpha Omega Alpha. He completed his general surgical internship at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center in 1988 and his neurosurgical training under Dr. John Jane at the University of Virginia in 1994. During residency, he completed an NIH postdoctoral fellowship in microvascular physiology in the laboratory of Dr. Claude Desjardins and a clinical neuropathology fellowship with Dr. Scott VandenBerg. He trained with Dr. Vinko Dolenc as a skull base surgery fellow in Ljubljana, Slovenia and served as a neurosurgical registrar in Plymouth, England. |
