Edward R. Laws, Jr., MD

Dr. Laws retains a faculty appointment with UVA as Professor Emeritus of Neurological Surgery, but he is no longer seeing patients here.

Our pituitary surgery practice is led by Edward H. Oldfield, M.D. and John A. Jane Jr., M.D., who have both helped pioneer techniques for removing pituitary tumors.  Dr. Jane Jr. specializes in endoscopic approaches to the pituitary region.  Dr. Oldfield identified a microscopic envelope surrounding pituitary tumors and has developmed surgical techniques using this envelope to enhance the likelihood of successful removal of these tumors.

More medical and surgical patients with pituitary disease visit the University of Virginia Medical Center than any other facility in the world.  Our Pituitary Program sees 500 new patients and performs 200+ surgeries each year.  Patients can be seen in clinic one day and scheduled for surgery the following day.  A visit to our clinic includes consultations with endocrinology, neurosurgery and Gamma Knife physicians who will discuss the full range of treatment options in a single visit.
