A Mulitcenter Prospective Study of Neurological Recovery as a Factor of Time to Decompression of Cervical Spinal Cord Injuries with Spinal Cord Compression
A Multicenter Prospective Study of Neurological Recovery as a Factor of Time to Decompression of Cervical Spinal Cord Injuries with Spinal Cord Compression (STACSIS)
The primary goal of this clinical trial is to determine whether early (less than12 hrs from the time of injury) decompression of the spinal cord results in a better neurologic outcome than later (greater than 24 hrs from the time of injury) decompression in patients sustaining an acute cervical spinal cord injury.
Inclusion factors:
1. Cervical to Thoracic fractures, fracture-dislocations,
dislocations or post traumatic neurological deficits
(complete or incomplete)
2. Ages 18-70
3. Complete or incomplete cervical spinal cord injury
4. Cervical compression confirmed by MRI or CT myelography
