Social Work
Within the UVa Health System, social workers are available 7 days a week, 8:30 AM to 11:00 PM. As part of an interdisciplinary team of healthcare professionals, social workers perform a number of functions aimed at helping patients to obtain the services they need to make living with a disability easier. Social workers assist patients and families in applying for disability and other insurance benefits, in obtaining available government services such as Medicaid, or in finding community resources such as support programs. Social workers may help patients find placement in rehabilitation or nursing facilities and coordinate home health visits. In addition to serving as a hub for patient services, social workers also provide counseling and psychosocial evaluation. Anne Marie Clemente is the dedicated social worker and licensed counselor for UVa’s Neuro-Oncology Program, with expertise in helping patients and families to cope with the emotional issues and stressors of living with illness that arise during treatment for brain tumors. Anne Marie supports patients and families in the clinic and over the telephone.
