  1. Adult learners

       a.   Be proactive

       b.   Last formal experience for most

           c.   Be sure evaluators know you

 

   2.    Objectives and ED-2 requirements

            a.  Know how to examine

            b.  More importantly, know why you're examining each system

 

   3.   Attendance and work hours

             a. Follow house staff policies

             b. One day off per week (weeks 1 and 3)

                         i.  One weekend off (between weeks 2 and 3)

                         ii.  Students on each service should split the weekends

              c.  Absences must be requested by e-mail

                        i.    All absence requests due today- first day of rotation

                        ii.   Each service determines start times

                       iii.   Expectation is that student are available to their teams until

                             5pm

      4.   On call

               a.   One on call experience for the month.

               b.   5-11pm on weekdays

               c.   end of rounds plus 6 hours on weekends

 

       5.   Didactics

                a.   Pretest and review day 1 at 3pm

                b.   Clincal Skills Session 2nd, 3rd & 4th Mondays at 2:30pm on 6C

                c.   Attending-led discussions/lectures at 8 am Tues/Thurs

                d.   Resident led sessions - Tuesday 3pm

                e.   Case-based learning Fridays at 2:30

 

        6.   Grading  (Letter grades) 

                a.   Evaluations

                       i.   Low motivation is evident and will be commented upon in the

                               narratives

                       ii.  Oral presentations - clinical and didactic - are the best means

                                of obtaining strong narratives.

                       iii.  5th %ile rank on Shelf exam

                       iv.  best study prep - do lots of questions from practice books

         7.   Clinical neurosciences interest-

            *Clinical evaluation = 65%

              Knowledge exam = 25%

              Shelf exam = 10%

              Homework/Class participation = 5%
