Rear of Ambulance

There is constant communication in this ambulance at all times with headsets at each seat so providers can talk to everyone regardless if they are upfront or in the back of the ambulance. The headsets are also hooked through the trucks cell phones so you can talk via the headsets to Medical Command. The headsets are also configured through the statewide Med 9 UHF radio system. This allows communication with (UVa Medcom) hands free. We also use satellites phones thus allowing for a nationwide cell coverage area. The satellite phone doubles as a GPS tracker that is configured in Medcom so they can track down the ambulance at any given point and check its progress on calls.

NETS 2 was delivered and placed in-service 1st due in August of 2006 replacing NETS 1 which had over 170,000 miles on it. Since placing it in-service it has transported many critical newborns back to UVa. The modern improvements from NETS 1 to NETS 2 are many. Better suspension, Better steering and driving, improved breaking, smoke stack exhaust to prevent fumes from rising into vehicles, fold down TV/DVD/VHS player (for pediatric transports), and larger Isolette lift. As of December 2007, NETS 2 is still 1st due (NETS 1 1st due in snow/ice) and has almost passed 50,000 miles! NETS 2 will soon be rotated for 1st due service as in mid 2008 NETS 1 will go back to Horton Emergency Vehicles to have to the ambulance box refurbished and remounted on a new chassis.
