Within our 45-bed, Level III/IV/ECMO NICU and transitional care nursery, innovative healthcare professionals work together for the benefit of critically ill infants. Key to this team are our Neonatal Nurse Practitioners. We maintain an ECMO program, operate a well established neonatal transport system, and have active cardiac and pediatric surgery programs.
Our NNPs provide care to a patient population presenting with all medical and surgical problems, including congenital heart disease and ECMO. The patient population extends from newborns requiring normal newborn care to the critically ill and/or premature newborns. Our large referral area brings babies from both rural and urban communities.
The NNP has the unique and challenging role of education and supervision of interns and residents rotating through the NICU, providing continuity and expertise to their patient management. The NNP also follows our special VLBW population, providing exciting opportunities for medical and nursing education, leadership and research, multidisciplinary collaboration and individualized patient and family contact.
