University Judiciary Committee Representatives
2 Positions

These positions are university wide positions.  As such, the nomination and election for these positions will be run by the University Board of Elections separately from the SMD elections.  If you are interested in running for this position, contact the the current representatives or go to UVA Vote

These two positions are open to all students.  The University Judiciary Committee was created as a student-run organization for investigating, trying, and sanctioning University students accused of violating the University’s Standards of Conduct.  In essence, the UJC hears all cases not covered by the Honor Committee (which hears those regarding lying, stealing, and cheating).   Each school in the University elects two judges, except for the College of Arts & Sciences, which has three.  These judges are responsible for attending a weekly meeting, judging about ten trials per semester, and for making changes to the UJC Constitution, By-Laws, and Standards of Conduct as the need arises.

The time commitment for judges varies from week to week, as judges choose which dates they are available to participate in trials, which last an average of two hours.  Weekly meetings are every Sunday evening, and generally last about half an hour.

The UJC is a great opportunity to get to know members of other schools at the University and to participate in the student-run judicial system, a tradition on which U.Va. was founded, and an integral part of the University.
