Student Council Representatives
1  Position

These positions are university wide positions.  The nomination and election for these positions will be run by the University Board of Elections separately from the SMD elections.  If you are interested in running, contact the the current representatives or go to UVA Vote.

Open to a rising 2nd year.  Discuss issues that affect the entire University as well as funding for Contracted Independent Organizations (CIOs).  Great way to get involved with undergraduate student activities and to meet new people.

As a School of Medicine Representative, you are a part of the UVa Student Council, the undergraduate governing body of the University consisting of Executive Body, Committee Chairs, and Representatives.  Your primary responsibility is to voice the interests and needs of the medical school, relay information to the medical school constituents, and participate in policy-making that affects the University.

Time Commitment:  Tuesday 6pm Student Council Meeting.  Meetings usually last 1.5 - 2 hours.  The meetings strictly adhere to legislative and parliamentary procedures.    Between the two representatives, only a few absences are permitted.  Generally, this is not a problem.

Comments:  Most of the business handled during the meetings concern the undergraduate students.
However, you have great flexibility in participating in any committee/activities that interests you.  You work with students from all fields of studies and when appropriate can introduce new measures.  Apart from the Student Council, you can initiate any ideas that you feel will benefit the medical school and the University.
