Honor Committee Representatives
2 Positions

These positions are university wide positions.  As such, the nomination and election for these positions will be run by the University Board of Elections separately from the SMD elections.  If you are interested in running for this position, contact the the current representatives or go to UVA Vote

The position is open to all students, but is ideal for rising 2nd years and entails upholding the honor code at the University.  You are responsible for educating the student body about the traditions and guidelines of the honor system and you are also responsible for enforcing it.

The Honor Committee is made up of 23 members representing each of the schools of the University and is ultimately responsible for the maintenance and administration of the Honor System.  Members conduct honor investigations and trials, disseminate information on the Honor system to new students/faculty, and establish special programs/policies for the maintenance of the System from year to year.

Time commitment:
3-4 hours in a typical week.  Every Sunday there is an hour long meeting about the past week's events.  Also, you are responsible for I-panels and Trials.  There are not too many and you will probably have to sit on one every other week and they last anywhere from 2 hours to 6 hours.  The job is not too difficult but it is rewarding

Personal comments:
The student-run Honor Committee is an important UVa tradition that reflects the concept of self-governance.  This is a great and fun opportunity to give back to the school and interact with students, faculty members and trustees of the University.  You will have the opportunity to make important decisions that will impact the entire University.  If you have interests in student government, ethics, law or philosophy, this will be a good position to consider.
