Fourth Year Class Positions

All Positions Elected in the Spring

PRESIDENT
One Position

The role of class president in the fourth year, overall, is similar to the other three years. You will advocate for your class, act as a liaison to the medical school administration, and coordinate the activities of your class officers. However there are a number of additional activities that you will coordinate. Specific responsibilities can be broken down into three main areas:

For your class (Events & Awards):

  • Graduation Planning - coordinate with the office of student affairs.
  • Match Day Planning - coordinate with student affairs and help plan celebrations.
  • Class Play - reserve location, identify director and interested participants.
  • Baccalaureate - identify interested participants, plan service and elect speaker.
  • Social events as you see fit!
  • Robley Dunglison Award: Best Clinical Attending from third year
  • James Kindred: Best Teaching Resident

For Mulholland Society

  • Participate in Student Medical Education Committee (SMEC)
  • Attend Mulholland meetings or find an alternate
  • Coordinate with third year class president on advising

For the Medical School

  • Provide the oldest perspective on medical education, student life, etc.
  • Work with office of student academic support to recruit tutors.
  • Plan Parent's Day with First Years - Usually late October, plan the day, MC the event or find alternate.

Anything else that you feel like doing is also very much encouraged.

VICE PRESIDENT
One Position

  • Represent 4th year class at monthly Mulholland meetings, at various meetings with the deans, and on multiple curriculum committees.
  • With 1st year president and Student Affairs, help plan and run Parents' Day for the parents of the 1st year class at the beginning of the year.
  • Initiate and implement any necessary changes in student government or medical school curriculum and policy.
  • Help plan graduation events, including commencement, the class play, and associated social events.
  • Help plan Match Day events.
  • Stand in for 4th year class president when unavailable.

TRESURER / SECRETARY
One Position

The fourth year treasurer is responsible for continuing to manage the class funds (meaning balance a checking account).  Other, somewhat more time consuming, responsibilities are helping to formulate and put into action a plan for the class gift, and helping with the class play funding.  These are group efforts, but you should play a large role.  Attend Mulholland meetings whenever possible.  Should attempt not to funnel funds towards your personal interview expenses.

SOCIAL CHAIR
Two Positions

The social chair position for the fourth year entails planning various get-togethers through-out the year for the class, and culminates with Match Day and Graduation parties.  This is a good job for 2 people because of the traveling demands of interviews and away rotations, having a co-chair allows for more flexibility.  This is a fun job that does not entail too much work - as long as you like to plan parties!
