First Year Class Positions

All Positions Elected in the Fall

 PRESIDENT
One Position

The President of the First-Year Class is responsible for general leadership and positive representation of the class as a whole. The President will act as liaison between the class and the administration and/or the public. The Presidents duties include, but are not limited to:  
 

  • giving a Parents Day presentation on first-year student life
  • planning and running class officer meetings and class general body meetings (at least one of each per semester)
  • overseeing the class community service project each semester
  • overseeing the annual anatomy donor memorial service and Pullen Awards
  • keeping the class informed of all events and news, including classmates personal announcements, via e-mail and/or meetings 
  • attending monthly Mulholland Society meetings
  • recruiting Webmasters to maintain and update the class website 
  • providing a forum for effective implementation of new ideas and projects expressing views or concerns on behalf of individual students
VICE - PRESIDENT
One Position
As vice-president, my main job this year has been organizing the Anatomy Lab Practice Exams. Other duties include participating in the Parent's Day presentation, helping with fundraisers, attending Mulholland and other administrative meetings, and working with faculty to improve the curriculum.
TREASURER-SECRETARY
One Position
The job of the first year treasurer is to set up everything regarding money for the class and make sure it will run smoothly for the next few years. This involves setting up the class bank account, obtaining a tax ID number from the IRS, if necessary (it was for us), and acting as the general contact person for all matters regarding money for the class. Do not try to get tax exempt status for the class. I spent way too much time trying to figure out if it was feasible and worthwhile last semester. Trust me, it isn't worth it. As the treasurer, you should have roles in every fundraising project for the class, namely handling the money raised, and should run at least the fall semester one, as each of the other first year officers has specific tasks during that semester. Outside of that, keep track of class funds; try to leave some for second year, and help out the other officers whenever you can. Also, keep meticulous records; it will make it much easier to get reimbursements. There are also some duties as the class secretary, mainly revolving around note taking, but that is at your and the other officers' discretion.
SOCIAL CHAIR
Two Positions
The main responsibilities of the First Year Social Chair are to plan Grand Rounds each week and to plan the Medical School’s Halloween Party (with help from the Mulholland Social Chairs).  You are also the fun person to whom everyone will turn after exams.
