Facilities: 1 1/2 floors of Jordan Hall, in addition to lab space belonging to joint faculty. Jordan is shared with the Departments of Biochemistry, Molecular Physiology, Cell Biology, and Pharmacology. The newly expanded and renovated Claude Moore Health Sciences Library is convenient to all the laboratory space.

Financial Aid: Grant support in the form of traineeships, assistantships, and fellowships is available to all students accepted into the program. Tuition, insurance, and fees are provided, as well as an annual stipend (no less than $24,000 for FY2007).

Housing Costs: University housing may be available, ranging from $400-$600 per month, and Charlottesville has a wide range of accommodations and rents.

About the University

Founded in 1819 by Thomas Jefferson, the University of Virginia is the major research university in the state, attracting scholars and students from around the world. The grounds of the University are 1,600 green acres in the midst of Charlottesville. All facilities are within easy walking distance of each other.
The research departments in the sciences are grouped within the Medical System, providing a center for biomedical research and education and facilitating interdisciplinary studies. There are close affiliations among all the biological and physical departments, sharing faculty and facilities. Seminars and courses are planned jointly, as are research endeavors when appropriate.
