This service works in close collaboration with the other services of UVA to bring the highest quality of care to the poisoned patient. Over 500 patients were managed by this service in 2006, with numerous patients transferred to the University of Virginia by ground transport, helicopter, and fixed wing aircraft. Nearly 2,000 other patients were managed off-site at other medical facilities through telephone consult or telemedicine.
