OCULAR CYTOLOGY

CPT CODE:  88160

SYNONYMS: Conjunctival smear, corneal smear, eye smear

TEST INCLUDES: Staining and cytologic evaluation pf prepared slides.

DEPARTMENT: Cytology         

SPECIMEN REQUIREMENT: At least one slide containing scrapings of ocular lesion smeared on labeled glass slide and immediately wet-fixed in 95% ethyl alcohol.

TESTING SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday 08:30 - 15:30.  Turnaround time: 2 working days.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS: Slides must be labeled with patient's name at the site of collection. Do not allow air-drying of the material on the slides. Specify site of origin and pertinent clinical data on request form.

REFERENCE INTERVAL: Normal cells.
