Minimum Size
In order to ensure legibility, the logo may not be reproduced below the minimum allowable size which is 7/8 inch from left to right outside edge.
Area of Isolation
It is important to avoid crowding the signature with other imagery. To ensure legibility of the signature an area of clear space or clear zone surrounding the signature has been established. The area referred to as the "Area of Isolation ", should remain clear of any other graphic elements such as, typography, color breaks, page trim or folds, photography, patterns, etc. This area is 1/4 inch around the outside edge. This is the minimum space required and a more generous amount of space is recommended, if possible.
Unique Logos
Unique graphic elements have historically been used to identify departments, initiatives, teams, projects etc. These are also described as team logos, symbols and mascots.
While these can have the advantage of calling attention and building team morale, these graphic elements often present an inconsistent image and do not reflect the Health System’s brand identity.
After many considerations and much debate the Health System Banner will no longer permit unique graphic elements to represent departments, teams, projects, and initiatives.
• Departments will use the Department Logo Standard
• Programs, teams and initiatives that have a need for an identity can also use
the Department Logo Standard. These identities can be used for internal
purposes only.
• System-wide initiatives may have a consistently branded identity created. Other
system-wide initiatives that need identities will be evaluated.
• There will always be “grey area” situations. These will be determined on a case
by-case basis.
Department Logos
Identifying department names provides another opportunity to elevate the awareness of the Health System identity as well as the personnel and services of a specific department. It is not required that all departments have a signature created. But if one is necessary, this is the standard that is to be used.
Unique symbols or logos for departments at UVa Health System are not to be used.
Tagline Policy
To help establish the UVa Health System’s brand presence, the brand identity… as expressed in every visual representation of our company, our facilities, our services and our programs, must always reflect an image that represents consistency and excellence defined within the standards of Banner’s identity elements… our names, our logos, colors, typestyles and overall graphic design.
Focusing on the Health System’s key messages and incorporating their language and intent into the content necessary to promote programs and initiatives throughout the organization eliminates the need for the development of special "taglines". The development of facility, departmental or program specific taglines dilutes the impact and intent of the Health System’s brand.
By focusing on the carefully crafted identity elements and logos found within Brand Central, our identity management system, their prominence and value will be increased among other competing visual images.
With this rationale in mind, there are no taglines currently approved for use for the UVa Health System, programs, departments, initiatives, etc. Please discontinue use of any taglines.
