Computer Classroom Policy
The Health Sciences Library’s three computer classrooms support the educational mission of the Library. These classrooms may be used by Health System faculty for instructional purposes, with a primary emphasis on curriculum-based, computer-assisted instruction. When not in use for instruction, the classroom workstations function as part of the Library’s Open Computing Lab.
Meeting attendees may bring items for personal consumption (e.g., drinks or snacks) but formal, catered events are NOT permitted.

Reservations
All reservations should be made at least six weeks in advance and are generally granted on a “first-come, first-serve” basis. Curriculum-based instruction is given priority. Reservations may extend through an entire semester but requests for more than five hours per week will be decided on a case-by-case basis.
Classroom reservation requests for training, administrative, or clinical purposes will likely be directed to other HS departments such as Health System Computing Services. Policy exemption or modification requests will be referred to the Associate Director of Library Operations for consideration.
To request a reservation contact Patricia Greenberg, at psv6n@virginia.edu or 924-0055.
Instructor Responsibilities
- All instructors are responsible for the basic operation of the classroom equipment and the teaching software. They are encouraged to make an appointment with a Learning Resources Center (LRC) staff member for basic classroom orientation. Library staff will install all software and perform an initial check of the software but will not be available to operate equipment during the class.
- Instructors are responsible for leaving the classroom as they found it.
- Any technical problems should be reported to the LRC staff for resolution.
- Instructors and their academic departments are responsible for all teaching software documentation.
- Self-service photocopiers are available for teaching materials.
Special Software Support
For non-standard classroom software, instructors must provide a copy of the software to the Library Technology Services and Development (LTSD) department at least four weeks prior to the start of the first class. It is also the responsibility of the instructor and the associated academic department to provide LTSD a copy of the software's license agreement permitting its use in a teaching environment. Failure to fulfill either of these obligations will compromise the Library’ ability to provide support.
Every effort will be made to accommodate the instructor's special software needs but, due to software and hardware limitations, not every application can be supported in the classrooms. Consult with the Library's LTSD staff early if there are questions concerning software compatibility. Full classroom support is only available during weekdays (Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm).
