Firefox Proxy Configuration

Configure Mozilla Firefox 1.0 to Use the Proxy Server

  1. Open Firefox.

    Windows: Select Tools > Options… from the menu bar.

    Mac OS X: Select Firefox > Preferences… (note: the remaining steps are similar for Windows & Mac).

  2. (The Options window should open to the General menu. If not, click the General icon in the top left column.) Click the Connection Settings… button near the bottom of the window.

  4. Click the radio button for Automatic proxy configuration URL. In the text box, type http://proxy.virginia.edu/ as shown and click the Reload button.

  6. Click the OK button, then OK again.

Log-in to the Proxy Server

  1. Once you have configured Firefox to use the UVa proxy server, you can access Library resources such as full-text journals and books from your computer. When you attempt to access any restricted Library resource such as MEDLINE or full-text journals you will be prompted for the proxy login.
  2. Enter your UVa computing ID (your e-mail ID, e.g. mst3k) in the User name field. In the Password field, enter the password you chose when you created your proxy server account.

  4. Click OK to log into the proxy server.

You should now have access to restricted resources for the rest of your Firefox session.

If you forget your proxy password, you can re-create your account by going to the Proxy Server Account Management page.
