Elaine is responsible for coordinating services for the clinical staff and faculty at the Health System. Since joining the Library in 1994, she has provided classes, consultations, and demonstrations on library resources to a variety of groups including physicians, nurses, PTs, OTs, and social workers to name just a few. Originally an outreach librarian, she has taken the “go to the people” spirit of that position and applied it to her current one which allows sessions to be taught at the point of greatest convenience whether on the hospital floor or in a staff education room. She also coordinates special projects, taking a large interest in the library’s marketing activities. Besides her regular duties, she provides one-on-one consultations, teaches classes, performs online searches, and staffs the reference desk.

Outreach Librarian [detail]
Ann Duesing was appointed the Outreach Librarian for the southwest Virginia region in August 1995. Her office is located at the University of Virginia’s College at Wise. She serves as a reference librarian for the Wyllie Library as well as provides health sciences information outreach oervices for the region. Outreach services include phone reference, computer literature searches, Web searches, document delivery assistance, consultation on developing personal or institutional information resources, database search training, such as MedlinePlus and PubMed, and classes on Internet health information access for healthcare providers, librarians and consumers.

Patricia joined the Library staff in 1997. She currently coordinates the Library’s open-enrollment education program. Patricia oversees the creation of new classes, registers students and markets the classes to Health System employees. Patricia coordinates special classes and Library tours. Besides her regular duties, she provides one-on-one consultations, teaches classes, performs online searches, and staffs the reference desk.

Assistant Director for Information Services [detail]
Andrea, a native of Michigan, began working at the Health Sciences Library in the fall of 2000 as the Learning Resources Center Coordinator. In December of 2004, she became the Assistant Director for Information Services and manages the Information Services Department which includes Outreach, Education, the Learning Resources Center and Information Services/Reference. The department supports an extensive educational program for the UVA Health System, provides an array of innovative outreach services with an emphasis on underserved populations, and is a leader within the Health System in supporting new information technologies. Besides her regular duties, she provides one-on-one consultations, teaches classes, performs online searches, and staffs the reference desk.

Medical Education Librarian [detail]
As Medical Education Librarian, Karen works to coordinate the Health Sciences Library’s involvement in education and curriculum-related support for the MD Degree Program, clinical residencies, fellowships, and other special internships such as the Dietetic and Summer Research Internship Programs. She serves on the Principles of Medicine Curriculum Committee, and has a special interest in integrating information skills training throughout the curriculum to promote the development of lifelong learners who can use technology to access and manage information throughout their careers. Karen also holds a joint appointment in the UVa Public Health Services Department, and teaches two sessions as part of their Master’s Program Health Care Informatics course. Besides her regular duties, she provides one-on-one consultations, teaches classes, performs online searches, and staffs the reference desk.

Outreach Librarian [detail]
Since joining the staff as Outreach Librarian in 2001, Kelly has worked with health professionals and consumers in Central Virginia to ensure they have access to quality health information. She accomplishes this through projects funded by grants from the National Network of Libraries of Medicine and other sources. As an RN and Certified Women’s Health Care Nurse Practitioner, Kelly is especially interested in women’s health, patient education, and public health issues. Besides her regular duties, she provides one-on-one consultations, teaches classes, performs online searches, and staffs the reference desk.

As Electronic Services and Research Librarian, Inhye manages and coordinates all functions of the Library's electronic services, which include providing support to the library’s electronic databases such as Ovid. She also serves as the primary contact person for the researchers and seven research departments of the Health System. Inhye also specializes in personal bibliographic management software such as Reference Manager, EndNote or RefWorks. Besides her regular duties, she provides one-on-one consultations, teaches classes, performs online searches, and staffs the reference desk.

| Mike Wilson |
Information Services Specialist [detail]
Mike came to the Health Sciences Library in April 1985 with a background in education and many years of work experience at all levels in academic libraries. He has a Web Designer’s certificate from ITC’s Web Designer Program and is a member of the Library’s Web Team. Mike is an experienced database searcher and is familiar with numerous databases, including PsychINFO, MEDLINE, CINAHL, and Web of Science. Mike trains users in database searching and bibliographic management software, staffs the Reference Desk, helps evaluate the Reference Collection and other reference tools, and orients new Library staff who wish to work at the Reference Desk. In 2002 he was named the Library’s Employee of the Year.
