Phase 3: April—September 2000

In Phase 3, the south side of the 2nd floor will be renovated. When finished, we will have a beautiful new storefront with display cases and an elegant entry foyer with a high ceiling, new custom cherry circulation and reference desks; a beautiful new stairway surrounded by cherry waist-high bookshelves; a revitalized reference/database workstation area. Many of the staff will also move to renovated office areas. New carpeting, lighting, and heating and air conditioning will complete the transformation.

What Happened in September—LOTS OF DISRUPTION!

  • MONDAY SEPTEMBER 25: SECOND FLOOR MAIN ENTRANCE OPEN!!!!
    • Jordan patio entrance closed. Books still in Cabell. Journals 1984 forward: A through Journal of Hypertension available on the 1st Floor; AVs on first floor; Journal of Immunological Methods through Z in Cabell. Access to Cabell—look for signs in the LINK leading you down the stairs near the McKim connector.
  • September 11–24: Move-in Weeks; 2nd Floor CLOSED to users. Reference and Reserve books and Reference assistance must be requested at the LRC Services Desk (1st Floor) or call 924-5591. Books can be returned here also.
  • September 11–22: Air conditioning off in Cabell.
  • Main elevator down until September 10.
  • September 8: Installation of wood end panels on the 1st floor stacks.

What Happended in August

  • August 28–September 1: Furniture deliveries.
  • August 21–September 10: Main elevator down for upgrades.

What Happened in July

  • Construction of an electrical closet and a door to the new space in the 2nd floor area near the temporary reference desk.
  • Corian tops refinished in the Learning Resources Center.

  • Touch-ups on the first floor.

  • Construction portholes placed in LINK barrier. Take a look at construction progress!
  • Touch-ups on the First Floor. Sun shades installed on west windows.

  • Demolition complete

  • April 17th: new temporary library entrances:
    • Second(main)Floor: down the hall to the right of the current entrance (toward McKim). Entry to Journal Room, photocopiers, Reserve and Reference Collections, Book and AV Collections, Reference Desk, Circulation Desk, Cabell Room, Reference/Database Workstations.
    • First floor: through the outside Jordan patio entrance. Entry to Computer Lab, Computer Classrooms, Small Group Study Rooms, Reading Rooms, Historical Collections
  • April 15th: Begin Phase 3
