Core Curriculum in Cardiology: 
An Evidence-based Approach

General Information

The unique and interactive learning course is designed at the University of Virginia specifically for our international colleagues.  This intensive three-day program will provide a comprehensive overview of diagnostic and therapeutic applications in contemporary cardiovascular medicine, diabetology, and nephrology with special emphasis on the impact of clinical trials on medical practice.  It will consist of bedside teaching rounds, lectures, case discussions, read-with-expert sessions, workshops, and visits to the Cardiac Catheterization, Electrophysiology, Nuclear Cardiology, and Cardiac MRI laboratories (see Agenda ). Such format differentiates this course from any other postgraduate enhancement activities available in this country for our international colleagues.

(Larry) Gimple, M.D. (Chief, Cardiovascular Division ), Klaus Hagspiel, M.D. (Director, Cross-Sectional Vascular Imaging), Christopher M. Kramer, M.D. (Director, Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Associate Chief, Cardiovascular Division), Mark D. Visiting physicians will also have access to the extensive resources of the Health Sciences Center Library, including PubMed and Internet-based materials. Individualized and/or group-based computer classes will be available on site. Trips to Washington, D.C., and Monticello (home of Thomas Jefferson, third President of the United States and founder of the University of Virginia) will add a historic and cultural flavor to the program.
