MINI-FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM IN ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY

Target Audience: This short-term program is designed for international cardiologists and internists who are actively involved in adult echocardiography.

Educational Goal: To provide visiting physicians with an opportunity to update their knowledge and skills in the field of echocardiography.

Educational Formats: This program will provide a comprehensive review of state-of-the-art 2-D, Doppler, stress, contrast, and transesophageal echocardiography with a strong emphasis on the newer, more rapidly changing, areas. Doctors will be able to participate in a reading session each morning and afternoon. A large number of cases will be presented, analyzed, and discussed. Daily reading sessions will provide the opportunity to interpret case studies and to compare and discuss diagnoses with our faculty. An integrated format combining theory and practice will be utilized. In addition, during the morning sessions state-of-the-art information on selected topics will be presented. Applications of the techniques to clinical practice will be emphasized. Each Wednesday physicians will be participating in a special echo conference. During the cath conferences on Friday afternoons, doctors will have an opportunity to correlate clinical, echo, nuclear imaging, and angiographic data.

Participants will have access to all new information in the field of echocardiography through medical journals, books, videotapes, Medline, and Internet at the Health System Library. All teaching materials developed by educators at UVa will be also available to the participants.
