Other Responsibilities
Fellows on the Outpatient Service are expected to carry the designated “outpatient pager” in order to receive calls from referring physicians and provide triage for the outpatient clinics in cooperation with the dedicated secretarial staff for the HIV and non-HIV Infectious Diseases Clinics. Fellows on this service will also be expected to respond to calls from the UVA Emergency Department and, if necessary, provide initial consultation for these patients during daylight hours (otherwise provided by the fellow on the inpatient consultation service). Fellows on this service will also be expected to perform case presentations and scheduling assistance for guest presenters within the Monday Infectious Diseases Case Conference. Presentations involve a discussion by a chosen faculty member in the audience, followed by a brief synopsis and literature review by the presenting fellow for the topic discussed. Materials in the form of handouts, pictures, and other media will be provided by the fellow, and examples of these can be found at this site in the future.
