Decade Plan
The University of Virginia Health System is devoted to finding innovative ways to improve human health. In July 2003, the Health System launched the Decade Plan, a joint strategic plan for the School of Medicine, Medical Center, School of Nursing, Claude Moore Health Sciences Library, and Health Services Foundation.
This effort combines the major forces of the medical school and medical center, and leverages the unique collaborative spirit among the various components of the health system and one of the great American universities. The plan charts the inventive ways in which UVa will create ground-breaking "Models for all of U.S." in the areas of patient service, translational research from cell to bedside, professionalism in teaching, and service to the community. The Decade Plan identifies specific goals and timelines for achievements in clinical, research, education, community service and cross-mission activities. Some examples:
| Patient Care Patient access Primary care Quality of care and service Market growth, development and outreach Communication with patients and referring practitioners |
Research Planning Clinical research programs Graduate training programs Facilities to support research Research infrastructure Retention and recruitment of investigators |
| Education Revitalization of teaching as a profession Curriculum enhancement - relevance and technologies Research on education for students, faculty and patients Facilities to support teaching |
