LACTOFERRIN STUDY SURVEY
Dr. Borowitz and Dr. Belyea are conducting a clinical study relating to a unique protein that's secreted into the digestive tract of patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease. They believe that levels of this protein (lactoferrin) may rise during flare-ups, and it may be so sensitive that it can be detected before you even have symptoms. If this proves to be the case, it may be possible to develop an indicator that you could use at home, which would tell you if you are likely to feel bad in the future so you could cut the IBD off before it actually causes problems!
The easiest way to measure what's being passed through your digestive tract is to look at what's in the poop. If you choose to participate in this study, we will need you to collect small samples of your poop, put it in the freezer (in a sterile sealed container of course!), and bring it with you to your doctor appointments. You will also need to fill out a survey every so often, about how you're feeling and what symptoms you're experiencing. Our hope is that we can correlate your levels of lactoferrin with your disease activity, possibly enabling you to "predict" flare-ups in the future.
Please fill out the following survey to let us know whether or not you're interested!
