RN New Graduate Programs

At UVa Health System, we understand that the first two years of professional practice establish the foundation of clinical skills you will need for the length of your career. As a Magnet facility, we are committed to your professional development and our investment in your clinical practice excellence shines through every aspect of our new graduate programs.

Our RN New Graduate Programs meet the unique needs of new nurse graduates as they enter practice. These programs provide generous, protected orientation time, four months for nurses entering acute care settings and six months for nurses beginning in critical care units. Experienced Preceptors and Nursing Education Coordinators tailor the program to meet your individual needs. In addition, you will meet regularly with other new graduate nurses to learn and develop together.

Throughout your first year of practice, monthly classes supplement your clinical orientation. These classes provide didactic, evidence-based content essential to developing clinicians, as well as peer discussion about transition to practice issues.  Please read a letter from Dr. Pam Cipriano, Chief Nursing Officer and Chief Clinical Officer, about our program for new nurses.

As you begin your nursing career, you want an exciting and supportive environment in which to meet the challenges of nursing. Start with us. There's no better place to learn and grow than UVa Health System.
