EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
The University of Virginia Medical Center is committed to supporting the continuous learning of its employees. Employee Eligibility |
- Regular full and part-time employees (20+ hours/wk), flex staff and management employees that have completed 6 consecutive months (12 months for RN Clinician I) of employment prior to the beginning of the course are eligible.
- Unit-based and Medical Center Pool employees are not eligible.

Course Eligibility |
Course is eligible if it meets at least one of the following criteria:
- Accredited academic course that is of value/benefit to the Medical Center
- Review course for a professional certification approved by the employee's department
- English as a Second Language (ESL), GED, literacy and related classes
May not exceed a maximum of 7 undergraduate credits, or 6 graduate credits per semester.

Benefit Level
|
- Employees will receive up to $2,000 per calendar year for eligible courses.
- Employees in "hard to fill" positions, or those pursuing degree requirements for one of these positions, may receive up to $5,250 per year for eligible courses.
- Benefits will also be available for approved professional certification expenses up to $325 for initial certification and $100 for re-certification per year.
- In general, educational assistance will be provided as a reimbursement after successful completion of the course or professional certification. However, approved courses taken at the UVA School of Nursing will be paid at the time of course registration. Employees with 2 or more years of continuous employment and a base annualized salary of $40,000 or less are also eligible for advance payment.
- Employees may also receive supplemental educational assistance and professional development funding from their department.
