Special Events
The Hospital Education Program (HEP) is dedicated to providing
a variety of experiences that help normalize the hospital stay for
children and their families at the University of Virginia Children's
Hospital.
Throughout the year the HEP plans special events for
children and their families on the 7thfloor of University
Hospital and at the Kluge Children's Rehabilitation Center (KCRC).
These family-centered functions include events such as a birthday
celebration for the HEP's resident mascot, Charles Major Claus
, and other theme-based parties that add fun, learning, and enjoyment
to the hospital routine. In addition, the University of Virginia Department of Athletics works directly with the HEP to coordinate regular team visits on the 7th floor of University Hospital.
Special events offered through the HEP benefit from the time,
talents, and other resources contributed by members of the University
community and local residents. Those interested in volunteering at
the University of Virginia Children's Hospital should contact the Office of Volunteer Services at (434) 924-5251.
All HEP services are free to children and their families. For additional information, contact (434) 924-2658.
