Infant Education
The Hospital Education Program (HEP) provides infant
services throughout the University of Virginia Children's Hospital,
including the Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU), the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) , the 7th
floor of University Hospital, and the Kluge Children's Rehabilitation
Center. Focused on helping babies and toddlers grow and learn,
services include individual sessions as well as play groups. With
parent permission the child's play, language, and social and motor
development may be assessed. Referral to a community-based early
intervention program can be made when appropriate.
For
infants who require long hospital stays, the infant educator may offer
to develop an Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) with the family
and hospital team. The IFSP includes a summary of the child's
development and other information that will assist in the transition to
community-based services.
All HEP services are free to children and their families. For additional information, contact (434) 924-2658.
