Art Therapy
Most children love to draw, paint, and create. A marker,
crayon, paint brush, or glue stick placed in their hands invites them
to explore their imaginations and build their own masterpieces. The
Hospital Education Program offers art therapy weekly to children who
are inpatients as well as to children who visit through outpatient
clinics. Art therapy is designed to tap children's creative energy
while adding to the healing process. Self-expression,
self-confidence, choice-making, and communication are encouraged as
children experiment with various art mediums, colors, and textures.
Art classes are available to inpatients and outpatients throughout the University of Virginia Children's Hospital.
All HEP services are free to children and their families. For additional information, contact (434) 924-2658.
